Wrestling Review: NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II (2016)

It’s a dream match on paper. It’s a fantasy many have only ever dreamed of: The Samoan Submission Machine, Samoa Joe defends his NXT Championship against the King of Strong Style, Shinsuke Nakamura. It guarantees to be a hard hitting affair in front of a raucous Brooklyn crowd when NXT heads back to the Barcaly’s Center. Also on the card is The Empress of Tomorrow, the hard hitting women’s champion Asuka going up against the Heart and Soul of NXT, the ever lovable Bayley. Last time they fought Asuka defeated Bayley by submission, but Bayley never tapped out; she was forced to pass out against the deep crossface. This time, you can be sure Bayley will go to no end to get the win and become the first ever two-time NXT Women’s Champion. Also not to be missed: GLORIOUS Bobby Roode makes his in ring debut against Andrade Almas, No Way Jose goes up against Austin Aries and Billie Kay is in the unlucky spot against a debuting Ember Moon (fka Athena). There will be no sleep ’til Brooklyn when NXT invades the Barclay’s Centre in New York City.

+ Samoa Joe (c) vs Shinsuke Nakamura (NXT Championship): match of the night, on a night when any match could ahve done it. Absolutely pheneomenal match between two who have never faced each other before. An electric crowd, some incredibly hard hits and a final few minutes which leave your heart pounding.
+ The Revival (Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder) (c) vs Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa (NXT Tag Team Championships): The Revival are a fantastic tag team, and every time they defend their titles you can be sure the match will be great. Gargano and Ciampa, after tearing the house down in their CWC opening round match, had all the momentum in the word. The Revival showed some of the best heel work I have seen, and the crowd was electric for every moment. Overall this was an incredible match, and definitely a contender for match of the year, and The Revival are proving every time that they are one of the best teams on the planet
+ Asuka (c) vs Bayley (NXT Women’s Championship): this was absolutely incredible. No two ways to describe this match other than simply incredible. On a match full of MOTY candidates, this stands out like none other. Sell your youngest child to see this match
+ Andrade Almas vs Bobby Roode: holy crap, Bobby Roode is simply… glorious. After one of the the best entrances of all time, these two put on a fantastic match. Both are already proven as worldwide competitors and it showed in this match
+ No Way Jose vs Austin Aries: Aries is sort of a mixed bag, and the dancing characters like No Way Jose never seem to last too long. This was a solid match to kick off the show, but admittedly nothing particularly special, which about sums up both competitors nicely

– Ember Moon vs Billie Kay: The debut of Ember Moon, formerly known as SHIMMER’s Athena, was really uninteresting. Billie Kay showed a lot of what she’s capable of, and that she perhaps deserves more, but aside from a few moments of nice athleticism, Ember Moon didn’t have much on show

> a few surprises here and there will make you smile, as well as some guests in the crowd. Maybe a surprise return as well…

Should you watch this event: The first ever direct annual continuation of an NXT event was one not to be missed. With no less then three match of the year candidates, this is one of the absolute must-see events of the year.
